i was told to post or i'd lose front page privileges on a certain blog.... i don't yet have a story ready, and can't currently post pics due to a technically difficulty. So, in lieu of that, I'd just like to point out that for a brief moment in time, groovelily was ahead of bowlingjoe at the bowling alley. Yup.
More later...

GrooveLily is a theatrical power-pop trio consisting of Valerie Vigoda, Brendan Milburn, and Gene Lewin. I have known of the band since they formed in 1994. All the members are very talented, artistic and have brilliant minds. I do not know them personally, but often get updates on the highlights through my grandma, and she shares the CD's and videos they have released. The picture of the band is copied from the official website, and not taken by me (the other groovelily)

Uh oh...blogging threats. That's never good.
I'm so sorry I missed the bowling get-together. I can't wait to hear how it went.
I don't really think that your reluctance to say "Joe, may I borrow your USB cable again?" qualifies as a technical difficulty.
Groovelily is a worthy opponent and has very good balance and hand-eye coordination which is a plus in the great sport of bowling.
She was, in fact, leading me by one pin through six frames. I didn't realize it was that close until I looked at the scoreboard. At that juncture, I shifted it into high gear and tossed a few Xs to seal the deal. But make no mistake about it....she's good.
In a related note, Muffinheadboy showed up for the third game and he erased a deficit late in the game to send his dad home with his bowling tail between his legs with a gutsy 195-189 win. (Of course tripping the 2-pin forward isn't exactly an exclamation point, young man).
Dear Groovelily lady of the Starfish and Coffee blog,
We're honored that you chose to use our band name as your blogging nickname. We're also happy to hear that you're distantly related something-99-times-removed to one of us, though we're not sure which.
We liked reading about your kids--we're all beginning the process of raising our own, and it's always edifying to read about another parent's journey.
Here's the thing:
While we don't have a trademark on the name, we do have a pretty significant presence as GrooveLily on the internet, and we're moderately concerned that people might search for "GrooveLily" and find their way to you.
Would you be willing to consider changing your blogging name to something similar, yet slightly different?
And if not, would you consider linking to us and perhaps listing us in a slightly more positive light in your "about me" section? There's something about the following...
"And Groovelily... well, it's lifted also. Some cousin a million times removed has a band by that name. I thought it was kinda cute."
..that just seems a little dismissive, and it's making us feel like you're giving us (and our name that we've been using for twelve years) short shrift.
Don't get us wrong--this is not a cease-and-desist blog comment. We *are* pleased that you like the name as much as we do--all we're asking is that you alter yours a bit or acknowledge our existence in some way. (And heck, you might even like our music.)
Thanks for your consideration. We look forward to hearing from you.
all the best,
Brendan Milburn on behalf of GrooveLily

Brendan, Valerie and Gene~
I’ll start out by apologizing…. I am sorry. I hope you know I was not trying to be dismissive or disrespectful in any way. The blog began as a mandatory work project that all the employees had to participate in. When I began, I knew absolutely nothing about blogging, didn’t leave comments on blogs, and rarely read any blogs. I didn't even intend for the blog link to be groovelily. I had wanted it to be starfishandcoffee, but do my limited knowledge the groovelily name ended up as the link to the blog. I really didn’t envision my blog or the post name garnering any google hits or making any kind of wave in the internet world… I basically saw this is a tiny dot in an immense sea. I know this was rather naïve in this day and age. I mean, one of the basic talks you have with your kids is to be careful what you post. And, internet etiquette alone would mandate a link.
I will mostly likely stop blogging, but would like to continue to use the GrooveLily name as my online name. I would certain stop doing so if that is what you preferred. And, honestly, you can tell me what you would prefer… I am not the kind of person who would be comfortable knowing I am doing something that has made others unhappy. The name is yours and I am sure you have much attachment and love for it.
Again, I am greatly sorry.
thank you,
not really groovelily
My 2 cents: I never would have heard of the band Groovelily, if I hadn't read about it on the Starfish and Coffee blog.
I was just thinking the same thing actually. I've even gone to GrooveLily's website and sampled some of their music. "Screwed Up People Make Great Art" is a great listen. One of these days, I may just buy some of their stuff, who knows?
In any event, I'll publicly state here and now that I'll attend the next GrooveLily show in the Seattle area (yes, they played here last year) if I don't have a previous commitment. AND I'll buy a CD at their merch. table (as long as Brendan personally signs it for me, of course).

I'd also like to say that I'd never ever have heard of the band Groovelily if not for this blog as well. Personally I think that it's been a very positive endorsement for the band. Especially if it's encouraged people to go check out the music. That speaks volumes. :-)
This reminds me of the time that Donald Fagen and Walter Becker of the band Steely Dan sent out a tongue-in-cheek note to Owen Wilson. Wilson had just made a film called "You, Me, and Dupree" at about the same time Steely Dan released a single called "Cousin Dupree". Fagen and Becker cleverly accused Wilson of ripping them off.
Here's Owen Wilson's reply:
I have never heard the song "Cousin Dupree" and I don't even know who this gentleman, Mr. Steely Dan, is. I hope this helps to clear things up and I can get back to concentrating on my new movie, "Hey Nineteen".
So I guess some people really do have a sense of humor about this sort of thing.
BowlingJoe
We in GrooveLily (the band, not the nice lady) do our best to be utterly humorless about everything. We used to be a Steely Dan cover band, though. :)
Karen and I have been corresponding privately about this, and she has very kindly indicated who we are on her site (extremely prominently!!! yowza...) which is very nice. She's been a real peach about this exceedingly minor controversy, and we greatly appreciate her willingness to indicate who we are on her site.
This, then, is a public thank-you comment to Groovelily the person from GrooveLily the band.
all the best,
Brendan (on behalf of GrooveLily)
Groovelily (the lady, not the band): where's the Jack Johnson review?
